This Springs fashion is nostalgic for me because there is a throwback to 80’s and 90’s trends which were what gave my infant fashionista self its first spank on the bottom…and at that moment I cried out, latched on and never let go. So let’s check out what we need to know to rock this season of re-birth, warmth and growth!

A powder keg explosion of color, texture, pattern and embellishments abounds. On everything from evening gowns, jeans, blouses, t-shirts and all walks of shoes, which is what makes this season unique because no category is going to be left out of the glitz and the glam. The question is what goes too far and what can absolutely not be missed…individuality is yours for the taking.

Definitely Do…

An ethereal breath of freshness…thats how wearing feathers of any kind makes me feel, I just love the lightness and drama they add to any garment. The other uber feminine fabric that is always a statement maker is tulle. What is more delicate and light than a ballerinas seemingly gravity-less tutu? Nothing is better than to trip the light fantastic in these fab fabrics.

My dream jeanie…the embellished jean! This season you can take an everyday staple and rock it out, and the beauty of this jean thing is that as always it goes from day to night but with an embellished jean you can dress it up for a fun lunch or take that night jean look to the next level. There are million options out there at all kinds of prices and everyone is wearing this trend, so don’t be shy!

Yep their back…they being shoulder pads, and while on the runway this season they go 80’s throwback not to be missed statement makers! They are however available in a more manageable size, but make no mistake they are a game changer in that no will think you are wall-flowering out. I for one being of the Greek broad shoulder lineage have to be careful as to how big I can take this trend, for me it is either a light lifter or I’m going in all the way….squaring up to not be missed!

Florals for spring…but of course! And while there are so many versions and renditions of this time old feminine classic there are also some changes to look for. This year the florals prints seem to bleed out of their blooms giving them a watercolor abstract feel or they are of the more tropical floral/botanical types with an almost tribal feel. And it may seem too much, but don’t be afraid of layering one floral print on top with a completely different floral print on the bottom…again rules are as blurred this season as a Monet painting so feel free to be creative.

Jumping for jumpsuits! This trend is not new this season but it’s momentum just seems to keep growing with each passing year. The fun thing about a jumpsuit is well…that they are just fun and the fact that they come in every style from cozy and casual to dressed up and sophisticated makes having more than one in your wardrobe a must. The women’s fashion world took them over from men in the 30’s and gave them their feminine side…I for one am so glad they did because I am giddy over the jumpsuit.

Two spring shoe trends you can’t ignore and your going to adore:

One that has been hanging around for the past 2 seasons and quite frankly, seemed a bit odd to me at first, but does not seem to be going anywhere is the furry shoe. In fact there is fur or feathers on every type of shoe from the hanging-out slide to the ultra glammed up heel. In fact the hottest couture runway look this season was a feathery “yeti- chic-looking” bright colored boot from Saint Laurent. I have to admit some of them look quite cozy…think of them as a little pet for your feet.

The bootie from winter is now walking into Spring, which seems a bit out of place in the warmer months ahead, and yet again are everywhere jeslike their furry partners in this seemingly odd matchup. They come in every shape and style from kitten-heeled 60’s style to cowboy country western. The key to success in this scenario is how you style them. Sticking with the ankle style in lighter/spring colors and paring them with a sundress or shorts can be a good way to have fun with this boot for spring thing, but blacks and brown were seen everywhere as well, so if you don’t want to put those away when changing out your seasons keep them in your closet and don’t be afraid to wear them straight on through to next fall.
